Dennis Lyman Stanley

1921 - 2017

Dennis Lyman Stanley passed away quietly in his Ashland, Oregon home February 2, 2017. He was born in Enterprise, Ore. in 1921.

Dennis graduated from Washington State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then worked at the Naval Air Station in Alameda as an aeronautical engineer until he retired. He studied law at the University of San Francisco, where he met and married Meta K. Houghton. They both passed the California State Bar and were later awarded doctorate of law degrees.

Dennis enjoyed music, photography, painting, skiing, fishing, and hiking in the High Sierras.

Dennis and Kay Stanley moved to Grants Pass in 1984. He spent 10 years as the Treasurer of the Friends of the Rogue Valley Symphony. Dennis moved to Ashland in 2015 where he enjoyed classical music concerts and dining out.

He is survived by his sister, Naomi Kulp of Puyallup, Washington; his son, Dennis Edward Baylor Stanley; his step-daughter, Evalyn Robinson Hansen; his step-grandson, Cole Robinson; his grandson, Jesse Stanley; granddaughters, Lea and Sara; and two great-grandchildren. Dennis was preceded in death by his wife, Meta Kathleen Stanley and his son, Anthony Stanley.

A memorial service will be held graveside at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, California. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Ashland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Symphony.
