Dalton Lee (Abb) Gressett

Dalton Gressett (Abb) passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, at his home just a few weeks shy of his 90th birthday surrounded by his family.

Abb was born on August 8, 1922 to parents Virgie Lee (Brannon) and Abner Drew Gressett in Stamford, Texas. He inherited the nick name Abb from his father. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Bandera operating an amphibious landing craft in the Pacific Theatre.

Abb met Mary Ann (George) in Ft. Worth Texas. They were married, June 7, 1947 in Daisetta, Texas. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Their first child was born July 3, 1950 in Texas, they moved to Oregon in 1951 and 4 more children followed.

The family often spent time at Lake of the Woods and took many trips. Abb was a loving father and husband to his wife, children and grandchildren. In his life he had many acquaintances who will remember him for his kindness.

After retiring, Abb & Mary Ann traveled often in their motor home, wintering in Lake Havasu, visiting family in Texas, and traveling abroad.

Abb was a well-liked and respected business man in our community. He started his career in the dry cleaning business. Worked as a real estate broker and developer. He was a board member of St. Luke's and First United Methodist Church. He was President of the Oregon State Dry Cleaners Association, President of Crater Lions Club, a member of Hillah Shriners and a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He also served with the Medford Rural Fire Protection District; and served on several financial boards.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; sons, Edward (Kirsten), Samuel (Jody), Ronald (Lisa), Stephen (Rhonda); daughter Judith Damon (Thomas) and a brother Ray Dean Gressett (Spearman, Texas); 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A private service for family will be held in Medford, Ore.
