Charles A. Young



Chuck Young, 86 of Medford, Ore., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2009. He was born March 31, 1922, in Virgil, South Dakota to Leo and Nella Young, and moved to Medford when he was a child. He attended School in Medford, graduating from Medford High in 1940. He found the love of his life, Violet Whitney, of Jacksonville, Ore., they were married on Sept. 25, 1941.

Chuck served with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater during world war II. After being discharged Dec. 21, 1945, He and Violet settled down in Jacksonville where they raised their family: Sue Havniear (Rich), of Medford, and Mike Young (Shirley), of Grants Pass. Violet passed away in June of 1972. Later on Chuck shared his life with Val Winningham-Young, Jo Ella Thompson-Young, and a very special friend and companion Irene Stein, of Grants Pass. Chuck worked in Mining, as a Logger, and retired as a Brick Mason, having had a hand in building many of the large buildings in and around Southern Oregon. He was a member of the Jacksonville Lions Club and the Jacksonville Fire Department for many years. He was a member of the Eagles, Medford Elks Club, and the Moose lodge. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, golf and dancing.

Preceding him in death were his sisters, Lela Young and Lyla Smith, both of Medford; and a brother, Bob Young, of Bend.

We would like to thank everyone at Green Brier Haven II, for their excellent care provided to Chuck during his time there.

A memorial celebration of Chuck's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday March 27, 2009, at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, OR.
