Blair W. Beckett Sr.

Blair W. "Bill" Beckett, Sr.

Bill was born Dec. 19, 1916 in Sacramento, Calif., to Olive and Lawrence Beckett. He passed away on April 19, 2009, at home as he wished. After the family moved to San Francisco, Bill became a star fullback for the Poly HS Parrots. Bill attended the University of Oregon on a football scholarship and continued his education at San Francisco State, where he met the love of his life, Lorraine Sullivan. Bill retired after 40 years with Del Monte Corp, with most of his time spent at Plant — in San Jose. He and Lorraine relocated to Medford in 1989. Bill was an avid amateur radio operator, K6GPF, building all his own equipment, and he became an accomplished photographer and serious collector of vintage cameras. Bill and Lorraine loved to travel, especially to Ireland, and in his life Bill traveled to 21 countries. He was very proud of the fact that he traveled by himself to China at age 90. Bill was preceded in death by Lorraine, his beloved wife of 59 years; and his son, Bill Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Beckett, of Santa Fe, NM; his dear friends, Doris and Dick Mayfield, of Medford, Ore., many friends at the Rogue Valley Manor and within the Medford community, and his devoted caregivers and friends, Carol Scott, Falene Olson, Donna Strickler, Margie Oliveras, Helen Wommack, Marie Arriola, and Bonnie Heath. Special thanks go to the staff of the Rogue Valley Manor, especially everyone in Residential Living, to the late Linda Cole-Elkinton who helped Bill accept so many life changes, and to Dr. Douglas Naversen and his staff for all their constant, compassionate care of Bill and most especially for their friendship that meant so much to him. At Bill's request, there will be no services. Donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Disabled Veterans, or the charity of your choice.
