Beryl A. Elmore

Beryl passed away at her home in Applegate, Tuesday morning, Aug. 25, 2009.

In December 1938, she married C.H. Elmore and moved to their ranch in the Applegate, where they raised five sons and two daughters, cattle, sheep, pigs, peacocks, horses, dogs and cats. Though few may recall, she also raised her fair share of motherless fawns, skunks and on one occasion, a lone bear cub.

Beryl was very active in the community. She helped to culminate the Thompson Creek School and Applegate school merger, as well as the Applegate School and Josephine County consolidation, creating Three Rivers School District. She was pinned by the State of Oregon as a lifelong member of the Oregon PTA. She was also a member of the OSU Home Extension Unit, a 4-H leader for over 40 years, honored as an OSU Diamond Pioneer and was a charter member of the Applegate Valley Historical Society.

A member of the Applegate Community Church, setting aside money when the children were growing up for a new Community Church and a large helper with the church's Country Store fund raiser.

She is survived by four sons; Charles (Kathy), Truman (DeVee), Russell (Becky), of Applegate, Joseph (Terri), of Salem; two daughters, Alicia Hogan (Larry) and Barbara Niedermeyer (Robert), of Applegate; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.H. Elmore; son Michael; two grandsons; one great-grandson, and two sisters, Evelyn Smith and Marella Luschen.




Service to be held at — p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at the Applegate Community Church. In lieu of flowers; donations can be made to the Applegate Lions, PO Box 3256, Applegate, Ore. 97530
