Balferd B. Buckles

Balferd "Buck" Buckles, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at home with his family by his bedside.

Balferd was born December 15, 1917, in Pawhuskie, Okla., to Jess and Ona Buckles. Buck and his parents moved to Jerome, Idaho, when he was a small boy.

He married Ruth Strickland in 1939 in Wendell, Idaho., and they were together 47 years until her passing in 1987. They moved to Ashland, Ore., from Cottage Grove, Ore., in 1945.

Buck worked in the logging industry at many sawmills in the Rogue Valley from 1945 to 1982, when he retired from McGrew's Sawmill. Buck and Ruth traveled in their motor home. He loved fishing, working in his woodshop, watching his grandson play baseball and football, and his granddaughter ride her horses. He was a member of the Ashland Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lyle Peterson. He is survived by one sister, Lola Curl, of Medford, Ore.; two daughters, Charlotte (David) Greene and Patricia Buckles, of Ashland, Ore.; a granddaughter, Alana Greene, of Ashland, Ore.; and a grandson, Kevin (Trudee) Greene, of Redding, Calif. Buck has three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A graveside service for Balfred "Buck" Buckles will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Officiating will be Keith Sorenson, an elder at the Turner Christian Church.
