Arlene Veal

Oct 31, 1919 - July 20, 2010

Arlene, an angel all her life, passed away July 20, 2010, in her Manor home to join her loved ones in heaven. She was raised with her two sisters, Delores and Betty, in a tiny home in Miller, Neb. (about 200 people). She shared a bedroom with her two sisters, and finished high school in a one-room school. This was at the height of a depression and drought, in 1936. Arlene attended Kearney State Teacher's College to receive her teacher's certificate. She taught (and was janitor) in a number of one-room school houses for five years.

Arlene met Kenneth Worland at a school dance, and married five years later after he received his master's degree. Arlene and Kenneth moved around with the army, delivering twin sons in Paris, Texas, in 1944. She worked as a grammar school secretary for many years to assist in education costs, living in N.Y. and N.J. for 35 years. After Kenneth passed, Arlene moved to Medford in 1980. She was always very active, the ultimate mother and grandmother. She was a fabulous cook, loved square dancing, quilting, bridge, cruising, but most of all, always giving to anyone in need. She married Norman Veal, reuniting at a 51st high school reunion. She was married for 38 years to Kenneth Worland and 21 years before Norman's passing.

Arlene spent the last 23 years in Medford homes and the Rogue Valley Manor. She was a most wonderful and generous lady who never stopped caring for those around her, always the sparkle of the party, and a good driver at 90! A tremendous joy for her was to have the entire family together to celebrate her 90th birthday.

Arlene is survived by her two sons, Richard Worland, MD, of Richmond, Va. and Ronald Worland, MD, of Medford, Ore. Arlene has five loving and grateful grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arlene's spirit will live forever, and those who knew her were lucky and blessed. She was best known as "Moppy."

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be sent to Medford Surgical Missions, 2959 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, OR. 97504 There will be a service celebrating Arlene's life at the Rogue Valley Manor, 1:00 p.m., on Monday, July 26, 2010. All friends are invited and welcome.
