Ann Micheletti

Ann Micheletti, 85, of Salinas, Calif., passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013. She was born December 12, 1927 in Salinas.

Ann Hazlett Micheletti was born in Salinas, December 12, 1927 and passed away peacefully July 17, 2013 at home in Salinas, Calif. with her family. Ann and her deceased husband, Joseph "Jim" Micheletti had a long, adventurous marriage. After retirement, they enjoyed the forests and mountains of the Medford-Ashland area. She was a long time member of the Shakespeare Festival. Ann was a descendant of English and Scottish pioneers who came to America in the 1600s. Some family came to San Francisco during the Gold Rush. Others were Iowa pioneers.

Ann was the proud grandmother of Matthew Micheletti and mother of four children. Her daughters, Theresa "Terri" and Laurie followed her career path as a teacher. Her son, Robin, a professional cowboy, and son, Peter, is a veterans' counselor and jack-of-all-trades as was Ann's father, Nathaniel. Nat and her mom, Beryl, came to Salinas at the beginning of the lettuce industry. Ann wanted to acknowledge Rich who was like a son to her.

Ann went to Lincoln school in Salinas and graduated from Washington Union school as did her deceased brother, Fred "Tom" Hazlett, a Navy pilot, and sister, Jane Hazlett Kaupas. Ann later taught there. She was proud to be a 4th generation California teacher teaching 29 years. Ann attended Pasadena City College, UC Berkeley, and San Jose State University.

Reading and writing were among her favorite pastimes. Ann enjoyed water sports, travel, and theater with her family. She got a kick out of being a dual citizen. She was a human rights activist, especially for children. She was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader, a political activist, active in NEA and leader in CTA and CalRTA, as well as a board member for Castroville Club, the Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, and Steinbeck Credit Union. She also enjoyed being a member of the Castroville Knitwits.

A celebration of life memorial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Emeritus, 290 Regency Circle, Salinas, Calif.
