Alrene McCullough Adams

March 10, 1925 - June 11, 2018

Alrene McCullough Adams, 93, passed away peacefully June 11, 2018 in Central Point, Oregon. Alrene Iris McCullough was born March 10, 1925 in Okaton, South Dakota. to Hulda and John McCullough. In 1943, she graduated from Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, S.D.

In 1944, while working in Seattle, Washington she met Richard (Dick) Adams, a sailor from Detroit. They were married May 24, 1944. Soon after, he went back to the South Pacific to fight in the war. Alrene was then trained as an invoice clerk to work at the Navy Supply Depot in San Pedro, California.

When Dick’s ship came into San Francisco, her bags were packed and she met him there. They were transferred to the East Coast, then back to Hollister, Calif. to a small Navy air base. In 1947, after the war, they moved back to Dick’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan. They only stayed a short time then returned to central California. They lived in the Salinas area for several years, and in 1959, moved to Fresno when Dick decided to attend Pacific College and Seminary. By this time they had four children.

After Dick finished seminary they started their ministry in Christian Camping. They served the Lord for 20 years at camp and conference grounds in California. This ministry was very exciting and rewarding, first at Camp Sugar Pine near Yosemite National Park, then at Redwood Christian Park near Santa Cruz. Alrene was the cook, the baker, the bookkeeper, the maid, the bookstore clerk …you name it, she did it!

In 1984, Alrene and her husband retired and moved to Oregon. They spent their time traveling, engaging in entrepreneurial ventures, and enjoying their grandchildren. After her husband’s passing in 1991, Alrene continued to stay busy with life, grandkids, and volunteering. She was a volunteer tax aide for over 20 years and was very active in church ministries. Her greatest wish was that people would come to know Jesus Christ and live their lives for Him. She lived her life fully for her Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her sons, Ron Adams, Powell, Wyoming and Terry Adams, Santa Cruz, Calif.; her daughter-in-law Chris Adams, Medford, Oregon; son-in-law Stan Powell, Reno, Nevada; along with 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and their families.

Alrene was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Adams; son, Jerry Adams; daughter, Pam Powell; parents; and three siblings.

The family would like to express our thanks for the amazing care she received from the doctors, nurses, and care staff at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center as well as Asante Hospice. We would also like to send a special thank you to Rita and her girls at Footsteps Adult Care Home in Central Point who gave their hearts in caring for her until the end.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Eastwood Baptist Church, 675 N. Keene Way Dr., Medford.
