July 1, 1927 - March 31, 2017
Alice Mary (Dansak) D’Addario 89, passed away peacefully from Alzheimers disease March 31, 2017 at Fern Gardens Memory Care in Medford, Oregon. She was born July 1, 1927 in Irvington, New Jersey, the daughter of Rudolph Philip Dansak and Alice Viola (Ritchel) Dansak.
In 1942 she married the love of her life, Felix "Phil" Henry D’Addario and with that marriage came a large, loving Italian family who accepted her as a daughter. Phil was in the United States Army Air Corps and as a young bride she moved with him to his deployments. They were married for 61 happy years until his death in 2003 at the age of 78. This young couple weathered everything that life brought them with family always coming first.
In addition to raising their three children, Alice also operated a children’s day care out of her home early in her married life. In later years, she worked and retired from Torrance Memorial Hospital in Labor and Delivery as a unit secretary and nurse’s aide, sometimes assisting with babies that came faster than the arrival of the doctor. She and Phil volunteered as “Santa’s helpers” at the Torrance American Legion each Christmas, handing out toys to excited, waiting children.
Alice loved being a Grandma and was always proud of her grandchildren, taking them camping and on road trips, having them stay for weeks during summer vacations, or just sitting on the porch playing the ABC song (A my name is Alan, I come from Alabama and I bring back apples . . . ) Her dogs were such a big part of her life beginning with Duke, a Great Dane in her teen years to Timmy, a sweet little dog she loved into her 80s; she always had one by her side. She loved to read and create Counted Cross Stitch needlework projects, and she could make the best spaghetti and meatballs with the Italian tomato sauce recipe she learned from Phil’s family. Her Sunday dinners will always be remembered.
She is survived by her loving family, children and their spouses, Jeanne and Loren Otto and Rosemary and Michael D’Addario; grandchildren, Steven (Marilou), Bridgette, Michael, Chris (Joelle), and Steve (Deb); and great-grandchildren Deven, Jordan, Kade, Hudson, and Megan. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Philip (Phil) A. D’Addario in 2009; a brother, Rudolph P. Dansak, Jr. in 2006; and a grandson, Robert M. Schneider in 1982.
Most of all we will remember how much she gave of herself to everyone. She was the happiest when sharing something of herself whether it was food, a special homemade present, or just her time sitting with you.
The funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 280 N. 4th St., Jacksonville, Ore. followed by a graveside Committal of ashes at the Jacksonville Cemetery. A special note of thanks goes out to Asante Hospice who lovingly cared for Alice during her last months and days and to Fern Gardens for the compassionate care she received over the last four years that she lived there.
Arrangements are in the care of Conger-Morris in Central Point, Oregon.
