Alice Keener

Longtime Medford resident, Alice "Doreen" Keener, 94, passed away May 17, 2013, at her residence. She was born October 4, 1918, in Medford, Ore. to parents, Florence and Homer Elwood. Her families (Elwood and Gustafson) were pioneers to this area and now six generations have lived in the Medford, Ashland, and Jacksonville areas.

She graduated from Medford High School. On October 17, 1936, she married Edward "Don" Keener. They had two daughters, Paulette and Carol. In 1953 they moved to Long Beach, Calif. where she attended Bible College and took courses at Long Beach City College. She was a devoted homemaker and mother who prided herself on everything homemade. She loved animals and was a charitable person. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano.

In 1966 Doreen and Don returned to and stayed in the Rogue Valley. They had 40 rose bushes they cared for. They loved gardening, traveling, and reading. Doreen's smile, joyfulness, positive outlook on life, and faith will be greatly missed, but remembered by all!

Survivors include her two daughters, Paulette Marin and her husband, three granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter, and Carol Quinones and her husband, two grandsons and three great-granddaughters. Doreen's husband, Don, preceded her in death in February 2009. They had been married for 72 years! Doreen's brother, Gordon Elwood, also preceded her in death in October 1999.

Funeral services for Doreen were held May 25, 2013, at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel. Officiating was Al Woody, of Central Point Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Graveside services were at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford, Ore.
