Alice Arleta Vanderford passed away September 16, 2010, in Medford, Ore. Arleta was born on June 19, 1928, in Karney, Neb., to Cecil and Alice Elwood. She was one of five children. During her childhood, Arleta survived the Dust Bowl and the Depression.
Arleta moved to Idaho, where she met the love of her life, Guy Vanderford. They were, married January 10, 1948, in Sun Valley, Idaho. Later they moved to the California Bay Area and settled in Hayward, Calif.
She worked as a nurse at Faimont Hospital in San Leandro, Calif. Still, her greatest joy in life was as mother and wife. She and Guy raised five children, in Hayward, Calif., and Arleta was an active member of the PTA and the Heart Association for many years.
Arleta was preceded in death by three siblings. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Guy; brother, Bill; five children, Steve (Jinny) Vanderford, Randy Vanderford, Gary Vanderford, Suzanne (Terry) Kellom, and Don (Nancy) Vanderford. She was a loving and proud grandmother to their grandchildren, Eric, Summer and Joe Carmack, of Boulder Creek, Calif, Jason Carmack, of San Francisco, Calif., Jade Carmack, of Maui, Hawaii, Ben and Brook Vanderford, of San Francisco, Calif, Ashley Vanderford, of London, England, Adam, Forest, Deanne and Jessica Vanderford, of Oakland, Calif. She was the great-grandmother to James and Julie Carmack of Boulder Creek, Calif.
A memorial will be held in Boise, Idaho. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
