Agnes M. White was born to Frederick and Jane Johnson Burlingame, in Wadena, Minn., on March 29, 1919, one of seven children. She graduated from high school there in 1938 and attended college at Ellendale, N.D., where she met her husband, J. Claude White. Aggie received a bachelor of arts degree and taught at the White Stone School prior to their marriage on June 3, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Daughter, Dorothy, was born in Wadena in 1945. Twin sons, Claude and Calvin, were born in 1947, in Frederick, S.D. The family lived in Missoula, and Whitehall, Mont., and moved to Eugene, Ore., in 1959, where Claude finished his doctorate degree. Later he taught at Southern Oregon College and the family lived in Ashland, Central Point, and Jacksonville and enjoyed traveling the western states, from Alaska to Arizona.
In 1989, Agnes and Claude retired to Florence, Ore. Claude passed away in 2010, and Agnes passed away December 15, 2011, in Florence, Ore.
Agnes is survived by daughter, Dorothy, of Portland, Ore.; son, Claude, of Salem, Ore.; son, Calvin (Anna), and grandson, Terry, all of Vancouver, Wash.
Agnes was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church, 333 Kingwood St., where services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012, 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Covenant Group at the church.
