UPDATED: Orchard Hill Elementary closed today during water main break repairs

A water main break at Orchard Hill Elementary detected Monday night has closed the school today during repairs.

The break was detected at around 10 p.m. when a custodian observed an unusual amount of water in the parking lot. On closer inspection, the custodian noticed areas of the parking lot "bubbling up and spurting water," Phoenix-Talent School District superintendent Brent Barry said in an email.

The water was shut off at 11 p.m., but all flooding was contained to the parking lot.

"Crews will be in first thing (today) to determine the area and break in the line,” Barry said in a press release.

The closure also affects Head Start and the YMCA after school program, district officials reported on their website.

School should resume as normal for students on Wednesday, Barry said.

The school is located at 1011 La Loma Drive in southeast Medford, and is home to 437 students.
