Three local high school athletes signed letters of intent to compete in college during school ceremonies this week.
St. Mary’s seniors Kamryn Ford (golf) and Sara Klott (soccer) will each attend Lewis & Clark College in Portland, while Crater senior Ariana Marks (cross country and track) will move on to Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Both colleges are NCAA Division III. Lewis & Clark is in the Northwest Conference. Wellesley in the New England Men’s and Women’s Athletic Conference.
Ford has helped the Crusaders to two straight Class 3A state championships. She captured the individual state title as a sophomore — shooting 9 over par for two days and winning by four shots — and tied for fifth as a freshman and placed eighth last spring.
Klott was a first-team all-Southern Cascade League selection for St. Mary’s last fall, her third time receiving all-league recognition, and was second-team all-state. She was a key figure on a Crusaders squad that won the program’s 10th straight conference crown and advanced to the state semifinals.
Marks placed eighth in the Class 5A state cross country meet last fall, covering the 5,000-meter course at Lane Community College in 19 minutes, 17 seconds. A week before that, she captured her second straight Midwestern League championship.
