Spartans edge Warriors to end skid

The Southern Oregon Spartans stopped an eight-game losing skid by edging the visiting West Sound Warriors 6-5 on Friday night at The RRRink.

Matej Valicek netted a pair of goals and Yanneck Kumli had three assists to spark the Spartans (3-19), who were tied 4-4 with the Warriors heading into the final period.

Thomas Wangler, Harmen Vining, Joel Holmberg and Mason Cooper put in one goal apiece for Southern Oregon, while Miroslav Smid added a pair of assists.

Austin Toussaint came up with 23 saves and recorded the win in goal for the Spartans, who outshot the Warriors 48-28.
