Medford police said Friday they had identified a suspect in connection with an Aug. 15 robbery of a Medford bank after the man was jailed in Roseburg for allegedly robbing a bank there.
Dannie Alston, 66, was being held in the Douglas County Jail following the Sept. 7 robbery in Roseburg when police put together clues to link him to the robbery of a Wells Fargo Bank inside a Safeway store at 3169 Crater Lake Highway, Medford.
The suspect in the Medford robbery was described as a male with a thin pale face with an age range between the 40s and 60s. In the Medford robbery, the suspect passed a note to the teller demanding money. No threats were made, and no weapons were used during the robbery.
Medford police said in a release that during the course of their investigation, a crime analyst learned the First Interstate Bank in Roseburg had been robbed Sept. 7 and officers noted similarities in the two crimes.
While serving a search warrant on Alston’s vehicle, Roseburg police seized physical evidence relating to the robbery that occurred in Medford. Medford police detectives obtained a search warrant for DNA.
The case has been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
