Open house planned for Parkinson's exercise program

Higs Gym will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, for people to learn more about its innovative non-contact boxing program for people with Parkinson's disease.

The gym is located at 2744 Taylor Road outside Central Point.

Its Rock Steady Boxing program enables people at all stages of Parkinson's to fight back against the degenerative disease with weekly boxing-inspired group fitness classes that improve strength, balance, flexibility, stamina and quality of life. The gym currently has 22 boxers.

The open house is for people interested in non-contact boxing, medical providers and potential volunteers and sponsors. Visitors can enjoy refreshments, hear testimonials, learn about volunteer opportunities and have the opportunity to sponsor equipment and boxers.
