Man dies on I-5 after leaping in front of big rig

A Roseburg man was killed Friday evening after he reportedly threw himself in the path of an oncoming big rig on Interstate 5 in Douglas County.

According to the Oregon State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Joshua Ward, 21, of Roseburg, "ran from the shoulder (of I-5) and launched himself in front of" the 2016 Kenworth CMV being driven by by Zekah Crook, 36, of California, who was headed south on the freeway.

Ward died at the scene of the incident, which occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Friday near Milepost 123 and the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

OSP was assisted at the scene by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation.
