David Jon Dickerson

Arrest made in alleged assault on officer

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Northern California in connection with a May incident in which he allegedly assaulted a police officer in Lithia Park.

David Jon Dickerson was arrested by United State marshals and is currently lodged at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on numerous charges, including assaulting a public safety officer, first- and second-degree robbery, menacing and resisting arrest.

According to a release from the Ashland Police Department, the arrest stemmed from a May 6 incident in which Dickerson refused to identify himself after an officer contacted him in Lithia Park for smoking marijuana. Dickerson attempted to leave the area, police said, and when the officer tried to stop him, a fight ensued. During the fight the officer was punched in the face and dropped his flashlight and Dickerson allegedly picked up the flashlight and charged the officer. Despite being hit with an electric charge from a stun gun, he was able to escape.

Dickerson’s arrest was a joint effort by the Ashland Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force-Medford Office and the San Francisco Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.
