SOU names new vice president of finance

Southern Oregon University Tuesday named Greg Perkinson, a longtime manager with Boeing, as its new vice president of finance and administration.

Perkinson will take over the position Dec. 18, replacing current finance Vice President Craig Morris when he retires, according to an SOU news release.

"We are excited to bring Greg on board," SOU President Linda Schott said in the release. "His career experiences — from lean business practices to sustainable building — create a great match for SOU."

Perkinson, an engineer by training and a licensed architect in California, has been a Boeing manager for the past eight years, according to the release. He also worked for several years with the Air Force, including a stint as commander of the 286th Mission Support Group at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

He holds a master's degree in construction engineering and has held one faculty teaching position, at the Air Force Academy from 1994 to 1997.

Perkinson will enter the department at the end of a turbulent year for SOU finances. Over the summer, the university acknowledged it was cooperating with an FBI investigation into SOU's $1.9 million loss to a fraudulent company that posed as its construction contractor for two major capital projects. The university has recovered only $600,000 of the stolen funds.

University spokesman Joe Mosley said Morris' departure had been in the works since early 2017 and is not related to the loss.

As head of finance, Perkinson will oversee the school's Budget Office, Human Resources Department, Facilities Management and Planning, and Campus Public Safety. He will oversee budgets totaling about $110 million, said Mosley.

Perkinson currently manages a $100 million budget in his position at Boeing, the release said.
