Yreka man jailed for woman's murder

YREKA, Calif. — Siskiyou County sheriff's deputies have arrested and jailed a 28-year-old Yreka man on charges of murder and conspiracy to obstruct justice in connection with the death of a 24-year-old Yreka woman.

Kelly Noelle Jorgenson was last seen at a party at the Charles Ray Sturm residence off of Shamrock Road in mid-April.

On May 18, Jorgenson's mother, Sharon Jorgenson of Crescent City, Calif., reported her daughter was missing. Sharon Jorgenson said she last heard from her daughter about April 12. She said it was unusual not to hear from Kelly, who frequently talked to her.

Siskiyou County authorities described Sturm as an on-again, off-again boyfriend of Kelly Jorgenson. He was arrested at his residence at 5:34 p.m. Thursday and is held without bail in Siskiyou County Jail until his arraignment in Siskiyou County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Sheriff's deputies and detectives investigating the case discovered the body of a young woman believed to be Kelly Jorgenson early Friday in a remote area of Siskiyou County off of Highway 96 northwest of Yreka. An autopsy to determine exact cause of death and to make a positive identification is scheduled for later this week.
