Woman's lottery jackpot snatched

A Medford woman was pushed down and had her purse snatched outside her Posse Lane home at 2:15 a.m. Sunday following a big lottery gaming win at Flamingo's and Time Out Sports Bar, Medford police said.

The woman cashed out after winning in an online Oregon Lottery game and drove home from the establishment. When she reached home, she was accosted by a man and had her purse snatched after being pushed, which caused police to call the crime a strong-arm robbery. (Correction: Reported details of the robbery have been clarified in this story.)

The woman said she may have been followed by the suspect, but isn't sure.

The woman suffered minor injuries from the assault but was not hospitalized.

The woman's purse was later found between 8 and 9 a.m. on Old Military Road with a "substantial" amount of cash missing, along with some medications and her vehicle keys, said Lt. Bob Hansen of the Medford police. No credit cards had been taken.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing dark clothing and driving a large, dark-colored van with rectangular headlights and without rear windows.

Police were checking surveillance tapes to see if they can make out any vans matching the description given to them by the woman.
