Washington man arrested for three pounds of marijuana in I-5 traffic stop

A Tacoma, Wash., man stopped for speeding on Interstate 5 near Ashland landed in jail when Oregon State Police troopers found more than three pounds of marijuana in his car.

A trooper at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday spotted a 1998 Subaru Forester traveling north at 73 mph in a 55 mph speed zone on I-5 near milepost 11 south of Ashland. The trooper stopped the car and another trooper with a drug-detection dog stopped to help.

While walking around the car, the dog alerted the troopers to hidden drugs. Troopers searched and found approximately 3.3 pounds of marijuana in the rear of the vehicle.

The driver, Stephen Eugene McCullough, 50, of Tacoma, was arrested on charges of possession, delivery and manufacture of marijuana, as well as a charge of driving under the influence of marijuana. He was lodged in jail, where he remained Thursday evening on $129,000 bail.
