Two hospitalized after 6-car crash closes Medford street

A driver apparently suffering a medical problem caused a six-car collision Saturday afternoon that closed Central Avenue in downtown Medford for nearly two hours.

Medford police Sgt. Tom Ianieri said the driver may have had a health problem that caused him to collide with four moving cars and two parked cars on Central Avenue at about noon.

The block between Fifth and Sixth streets was closed while emergency crews extricated at least one of the victims, transported two to Rogue Valley Medical Center and cleared the roadway.

Police are not releasing the names of the people involved yet, but only the driver and his passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their condition was not immediately available.
