Thieves ransack home, steal gun safe

Police are still tracking down leads on who stole a large gun safe, cash and jewelry from a Williams-area residence that was ransacked last week, authorities said.

Taken in the Aug. 19 burglary on the 16000 block of Watergap Road was an entire gun safe containing about 100 rifles valued at more than $200,000, according to the Josephine County Sheriff's Department.

Also taken from other areas of the house were about $10,000 worth of jewelry as well as a large amount of cash, mainly in $100 bills, sheriff's deputies said.

The gun safe was later discovered at an undisclosed location, deputies said.

The department's major crimes unit is handling the case. Anyone with information on the burglary was urged to telephone sheriff's deputies at 541-474-5153, Ext. 3523.
