Scam artist 'repairman' sought for Grants Pass theft

Editor's Note: Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon would like to thank the readers of the Mail Tribune who provided the tip that led to the arrest of Anthony Gilbert on May 17, two days after he was profiled in the Mail Tribune.

This week, the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon need assistance in locating convicted felon Adam J. Waldrop.

In early May 2007, Waldrop, 29, contacted a Grants Pass resident in the guise of a roof repairman. After a cursory inspection of the roof, he advised the homeowner that the cost to repair the roof would be approximately $5,000. Waldrop returned the next day seeking additional funds to complete the work but never returned to complete the work. The total loss to the victim was in excess of $10,000. If located, Adam Waldrop will be charged with first-degree aggravated theft by deception.

Waldrop has extensive criminal histories in Washington, Idaho, California and Oklahoma with similar crimes.

Waldrop is described as a white male adult, 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 210 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. Waldrop has unknown tattoos on his right and left arms, his chest and back and his left shoulder.

He may be using the aliases of Gene Waldrop, Adam John Powers, Adam Woods, or Steve Duane Vitolo (or Vitola). The picture shown here, taken in 2006, is the most recent image available.

Waldrop might still be in the area seeking additional victims. He may be driving a newer red pickup, unknown make or model.

If you have seen him, or have information regarding his whereabouts, please contact your local police department or Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon at 800-3-DETECT (800-333-8328) and refer to case No. MT-315.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in these cases or any unsolved criminal activity. Callers can remain anonymous. The reward is sponsored by Sonitrol of Eugene.
