Rogue River man jailed in attempted kidnapping

A Rogue River man is in jail after allegedly trying to kidnap a woman just before noon Wednesday.

Jackson County sheriff's spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said Michael Valenzuela, 35, was hiding in a bush outside the victim's workplace in the 300 block of Pine Grove Road in Rogue River.

When the woman left work, Valenzuela reportedly jumped out of the bush and attempted to grab her.

The woman was able to fight off Valenzuela and escape.

Deputies arrived on the scene and arrested Valenzuela on charges of first-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault and harassment.

He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on more than $1 million bail.

The woman suffered some scratches and was shaken up by the incident, Carlson said.

The case remains under investigation. Carlson said the two didn't know one another, but Valenzuela had been known to loiter in the area.
