Police say Medford man carried 31 pounds of marijuana in trunk

A Medford man who was pulled over by police Tuesday for not having a front-facing license plate on his vehicle was cited and released on charges he was carrying 31 pounds of marijuana in his trunk, Oregon State Police reported.

Rahmon Able, 36, was driving northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 10 outside Ashland at 2 p.m. Tuesday when he was pulled over for the license plate violation, according to a media release from OSP.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the marijuana in the trunk, police said. The substance, packaged in 31 individual bags, has an estimated street value of $75,000, the release said.

The drugs were seized, and Able was taken into custody. He was later released and ordered to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court for unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, police said.
