Phoenix man survives fatal crash in Lane County

A local man is being treated for serious injuries in Springfield after a rural Lane County crash in which another driver died.

Ronald Croy, 67, of Phoenix, was airlifted late Friday afternoon to Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend following a wreck on Highway 58 near the town of Dexter, according to a release issued by Oregon State Police.

At about 4:45 p.m. Friday, Croy had been driving on Highway 58 in his 1972 International Harvester pickup when a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Jonathon Lionel Brooks, 18, of Dexter, entered the roadway headed from Rattlesnake Road, colliding into Croy's truck.  Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.
