One hospitalized, one jailed in clash between neighbors

GRANTS PASS — A clash between neighbors left one man hospitalized with serious head injuries and another in jail on an assault charge.

Grants Pass police and an American Medical Response ambulance were called to South Bridge Apartments at 210 Rogue River Ave. at about 10:10 a.m. Monday because a man was unconscious and having difficulty breathing.

Investigators determined that the 40-year-old man had suffered serious head trauma in an altercation with a neighbor the night before, a police press release said.

He was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital, then transferred to Rogue Valley Medical Center for surgery. Hospital officials said he remained in critical condition Tuesday.

Officers contacted the other neighbor involved in the fight, Allen Douglas Von Nevin Jr., 28, and subsequently arrested him on a second-degree assault charge. He was lodged in the Josephine County Jail.

Additional details about the fight and who discovered the victim weren't available Tuesday.

The investigation into the case is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call Detective Enda Pierce at 474-6370.
