No injuries in accident that killed free horse

An escaped horse and two mules contributed to a three-vehicle crash Wednesday night at the south end of Talent Avenue at its intersection with Highway 99, police said.

Deseray Jade Brown, 32, Medford, was traveling north on Highway 99 about 10:30 p.m. when her Nissan Xterra collided with a horse that ran onto the road from the east shoulder, police said.

The blow from the vehicle killed the animal and sent it crashing into two vehicles traveling in the southbound lane. After hitting the horse, Brown's vehicle crashed into one of the vehicles in the southbound lane and then through a fence off the west shoulder, police said.

No injuries were reported, and no citations have been issued, police said. The mules were not harmed.

Sheriff's deputies and police attempted to corral the mules for about a half hour before they were able to catch them and find the owner of the three animals, who was not home. Police have not named the owner.
