Man arrested in the alleged rape of a Phoenix woman, 55

PHOENIX — Phoenix police Wednesday night arrested Juan Nunez, 24, on rape and burglary charges after a 55-year-old woman reported being raped.

The alleged victim reported that she was awakened at about 3 a.m. Wednesday when a Hispanic man came into her home through an open window. She told police that he raped her, then left through the front door.

Interim Police Chief Derek Bowker said the woman described her assailant as wearing dark clothes and speaking with an accent. However, she didn't have a clear description of what he looked like.

At about 5:30 p.m., Phoenix officers, with assistance from the Medford Police Department, contacted Nunez at a trailer off North Phoenix Road. Police said Nunez gave them a statement about the assault. By 9 p.m. Nunez was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree rape and three counts of first-degree burglary.
