A Central Point man was arrested today for allegedly holding a woman against her will for about three hours Friday while he physically and sexually assaulted her, leaving her with injuries that included burns from a butane torch, Jackson County sheriff's officials said.
Jamal William Claybourne, 26, of the 400 block of West Pine Street, was being held in the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, attempted first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, second- and fourth-degree assault-domestic violence, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon, according to jail records. His bail is set at $487,500.
A sheriff's investigation showed Claybourne and the woman, whom he knew from a previous relationship, went out to Agate Lake together, according to Sgt. Julie Denney. While there, Claybourne allegedly held the woman against her will and sexually and physically assaulted her.
The woman eventually was able to persuade Claybourne to let her drive them both back to Medford, Denney said. She went to a local hospital for an exam Saturday, which is when a report was filed with the sheriff's department.
Deputies arrested Claybourne at Del Taco, his workplace, today, Denney said.
