Man accused of sexually abusing girls in two counties

A Jackson County grand jury indicted Daniel Michael Cooley, 18, of Grants Pass this week on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and first-degree sexual abuse after a months-long investigation by Oregon State Police in multiple counties.

The Jackson County charges involve a girl who was younger than 11, according to OSP.

Cooley was arrested March 14 in Josephine County, where he remains lodged in jail on $100,000 bail, OSP said.

On March 20, a Josephine County grand jury indicted Cooley on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of second-degree unlawful sexual penetration.

Those charges involve a girl who was 12 at the time of the alleged offenses, according to Josephine County Circuit Court documents.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming from other counties, OSP said.
