Local hunters find a human skeleton

The skeletal remains of an apparent suicide victim were discovered partially hanging from a tree a few miles northwest of Central Point early Monday afternoon.

The remains, dressed in a shirt, blue jeans and boots, were found at about 12:30 p.m. by a father and son hunting birds in a thicket just south of Kirtland Road near the intersection of Blackwell Road.

The skeleton was on its knees with its back to a tree and a length of cloth around the tree and its neck, according to one of the hunters, who asked not to be identified. Its hands appeared to be free, the source said.

After determining it was a real skeleton and not a ghoulish Halloween prank, the hunters immediately notified the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.

The department investigated the case and determined it was a suicide, Capt. Terry Larson said this morning. No other information was released, he said.
