Four kids arrested in Howard Elementary's graffiti caper

MEDFORD — Medford police have arrested four juveniles on suspicion of spreading a rash of graffiti in the Howard Elementary School area in north Medford.

The three boys, ranging in age from 12 to 14, and an 11-year-old girl are charged with first-degree criminal mischief.

They allegedly marred numerous buildings, including the elementary school, streets, sidewalks, mailboxes and signs with paint and markers between Saturday and Monday in neighborhoods around the elementary school at 286 Mace Road, police said. About 28 families were affected in the Railroad Park, Howard, DeHague, Wyatt, Omni, Salyer, Seroba and Debarr neighborhoods.

Police were able to find the suspects after an officer recognized one of the slang names used in the graffiti, said Medford police Watch Commander Sgt. Jerry Burchfeld.
