Death of California woman treated as homicide

Oregon State Police have released the name of a woman whose body was found Wednesday near Brookings, and her death is being treated as a homicide.

State police said Michelle Ashley Dickson, 23, a resident of Del Norte County, Calif., was reported missing after last being seen July 15. Her burned-out Honda Civic was found July 16 off Highway 101 near Crescent City.

The case is being treated as a homicide and Curry County Major Crime Team investigators are working with Del Norte County Sheriff's Office detectives as well as OSP. The investigation began Wednesday evening after two hikers reported finding a body at the base of the Highway 101 bridge across Thomas Creek.

An autopsy by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office has been scheduled to confirm the manner and cause of death.

At 345 feet above the ground, the Thomas Creek Bridge is the highest span in Oregon.
