Crews search for missing man, 83

WIMER — Sheriff's officials worked late into the night Tuesday searching for an elderly Wimer man who did not return home after visiting his daughter.

Jackson County search and rescue crews combed the area surrounding Wimer looking for 83-year-old Hugh Ellis, who went missing at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said.

"We are concerned for Mr. Ellis' safety and will stage a full search and rescue call-out (today) if he is not located Tuesday night," Winters said.

Crews were aided by two helicopters Tuesday afternoon. Search and rescue crews will meet at dawn today in the Wimer area to search the back roads and forests in the area, Winters said.

Ellis left his daughter's home on Rogue River Highway and did not make it back to his home in the 5400 block of Pleasant Creek Road in Wimer. His concerned family phoned the sheriff's department and the search was under way, Winters said.

Ellis drives a dark green 1994 Mazda pickup with a grey stripe. It has an Oregon license plate reading UGU 762. He was wearing a navy blue windbreaker, a grey fisherman's cap, blue jeans and multicolored long-sleeve shirt.

Anyone who spots Ellis or his vehicle is asked to call the sheriff's department dispatch at 776-7206.
