Brookings man missing after Applegate crash

Jackson County Search and Rescue is looking for a Brookings man believed to have gone missing after crashing his newer SUV near Applegate Lake.

At 8:48 a.m. Saturday, a new white Mazda CX-3 belonging to George Randolph Gower, 69, was found upside down and unoccupied in the 9200 block of Carberry Creek Road, according to a release issued by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

It's unclear why Gower's vehicle was in the Applegate area, though sheriff's deputies say Gower has shown symptoms of dementia, and left behind medication in the vehicle. Gower was believed to have been traveling from Brookings to Medford Friday, but Gower never made his destination and family members have not heard from him.

Searchers are combing the area, but deputies are hoping to hear from anyone who may have seen the man, possibly to give him a ride to a safe location. Gower is described as five feet, seven inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with grey hair in a ponytail, and facial hair. His left ear is missing a lobe.

Anyone with information is asked to call 541-776-7206 and reference case 18-11589.
