Cops arrest Medford 7-Eleven robbery suspect ... in jail

Police did not have to go far to arrest a 26-year-old man Friday who is suspected of robbing a Medford 7-Eleven in early July.

A police sketch distributed to local media led officers to 26-year-old Justin Carl Fakes, who already was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on unrelated felony charges.

Fakes allegedly approached a clerk at the store at 2297 W. Main St. and presented a note demanding money. The note suggested he was armed with a gun. The clerk refused to cooperate and activated an alarm, scuttling the robbery and prompting Fakes to flee on foot.

He ran to a 1990s blue-gray minivan and drove away before police could catch him, police said.

Fakes was hit with an additional charge of second-degree robbery and remained lodged in jail on more than $1 million bail.

Fakes was arrested Oct. 6 on charges of identity theft, second-degree theft, credit card fraud and a probation violation. He pleaded not guilty to his previous charges earlier this month and is awaiting a pre-trial hearing on that case, Jackson County court records show.
