Coffee-stand robbery suspect arrested

MEDFORD — Detectives Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly robbing the Crossroads Coffee booth on East Jackson Street in July.

The detectives were able to develop leads pointing to the suspect's identity. On Tuesday they contacted suspect William Tye Middlekauff at a home in the 2100 block of Roberts Road and interviewed him regrading the robbery.

Following the interview, Middlekauff was arrested on a charge of second-degree robbery and lodged in the Jackson County Jail, where he remained late Wednesday on $100,000 bail.

Police allege Middlekauff brandished a semiautomatic handgun before snatching money from the coffee-stand clerk. He then ran down an alley behind the Quality Market and disappeared.

Police roped off the booth while they spoke with the clerk. A police dog was called to the scene to track a path but was unable to locate a suspect.
