Cave Junction man dies after fall from rope swing on Rogue River

GRANTS PASS — A Cave Junction man fell from a rope swing on the Rogue River, struck his head and died Monday afternoon.

Michael C. Cotton, 47, of Cave Junction, was at the river in the 3200 block of Lower River Road, Grants Pass, with a companion, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office reported. He climbed a platform and swung out toward the river on a rope swing, but dropped onto the rocks below at about 3 p.m. Monday.

Both Cotton and his companion were hearing impaired, so deputies needed help to get her statements about the accident, Sheriff Gil Gilbertson said.

Mercy Flight transported Cotton to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where he died later Monday, the sheriff's office reported.
