Blaze badly damages Jacksonville house

JACKSONVILLE — A Jacksonville home on Highway 238 was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

A man feeding his cows more than a mile away from the home in the 10700 block of Highway 238 alerted Jackson County Fire District 9 crews to the blaze, officials said.

The single story wood-frame house was engulfed in flames before crews arrived, said District 9 Fire Chief Brett Fillis said in a news release.

The home's patio and detached garage were also damaged.

Fire crews managed to save some of the occupant's belongings as well as a pickup, Fillis said.

Leah Gregory, the house's resident, was not home at the time. The house is owned by William Kropper of Davis, Calif.

District 9 crews were assisted by the Jacksonville Fire Department and Mercy Flights ambulance.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation late Tuesday, Fillis said.
