Authorities seize 125 pounds of pot from medical marijuana grow site

The Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team seized 125 pounds of marijuana, hashish and two rifles from a listed medical marijuana grow site in Eagle Point Wednesday afternoon.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at the property along the 10000 block of Butte Falls Highway at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Police obtained the warrant after Oregon State Police found 20 pounds of marijuana concealed in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Tuesday. Investigators tracked it back to the medical marijuana grow site.

Jay Parrish, 51, was arrested for failure to change his address for sex offender registration purposes and possession of methamphetamine. He is held in lieu of $10,000 bail in the Jackson County Jail.

Lawrence Prentice, 46, is named as a suspect, but was not listed on the county jail logs.

Various marijuana charges are pending for both subjects, police said.

"Based on the investigation, it is alleged the marijuana was a commercial operation far outside of OMMP (Oregon Medical Marijuana Program) guidelines," the news release said.

The marijuana's street value in Southern Oregon is listed at about $1,000 per pound. That value could jump to $8,000 per pound in the Midwest or East Coast "due to scarcity of high quality marijuana," Lt. Brett Johnson wrote in the release.
