Ashland woman killed in I-5 crash

An Ashland woman died Thursday after her van went off the road at mile 16 on Interstate 5 near Ashland.

Marleen B. Walmsley, 65, was traveling south on Interstate 5 shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday when her 1996 Mazda van traveled off the roadway and struck a highway sign, Oregon State Police said in a news release Friday.

Walmsley was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived. They administered CPR before transporting her to Ashland Community Hospital. Walmsley was then taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon, police said.

Oregon State Police is investigating, with assistance from the medical examiner's office. Investigators believe the cause of the crash may have been a medical emergency suffered by Walmsley, the news release said.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Fire District No. 5 and Oregon Department of Transportation.
