$112,000 in goods taken during heist of local pawnshop

MEDFORD — More than $100,000 worth of jewelry and other items were stolen from a pawnshop in downtown Medford early Wednesday morning.

An alarm summoned the owner of Medford Pawn to his store at 525 S. Central Ave., and he called police at 1:42 a.m. after he confirmed a break-in, Medford police Lt. Bob Hansen said. The officers who took the initial report listed the total value of items taken to be about $112,000. Hansen said the amount is just a rough estimate and it could take some time for the pawnbroker to sort out exactly what was lost.

"We know it was a lot, but not entirely how much," Hansen said. "It could take them weeks to get a complete inventory to us."

Responding officers searched the area, but were unable to locate any suspects, police said.

The initial report indicated about 150 rings had been taken from a jewelry case at the shop, Hansen said. Other items in the shop were moved around and employees are working hard to complete the inventory to determine exactly what is missing.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call Detective Bill Ford at 774-2236.
