Scout reaches Eagle rank

Chandler Carne, son of Bob and Cathy Carne, was awarded his Eagle Scout badge at a Court of Honor Nov. 6 at First Baptist Church in Ashland. He is a member of Troop 112 in Ashland. Speakers at the ceremony included Jeff Jones, Bob Ellis, Darryl Grupe and Eric Johnson. Chandler received a special flag that had been flown over the U.S. Capitol on Sept. 26, 2010, in his honor, as well as other congratulatory letters.

Chandler, 15, is a sophomore at Ashland High School where he is active in the band. He has been playing the saxophone since the fourth grade. He also attends First Baptist Church where he is active in the youth group and helps with the Children's Church.

During his years as a Cub Scout, Chandler earned his Arrow of Light, Cub Scouts' highest award. While in Boy Scout Troop 112, he served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and, most recently, quartermaster. He also is a member of the Order of the Arrow. For his Eagle Scout service project, he chose to refurbish the archery targets and trails at the Ashland Gun Club, spending more than 90 hours to plan and complete the project.
