Larry and Pat Youmans

Larry and Pat Youmans of Medford celebrated their 70th anniversary Tuesday, Sept. 21.

When asked what it takes to be married to the same person for 70 years, the answer they gave was "lots of patience and love."

Larry Youmans and Pat Maeshner had a long courtship of seven weeks. They started on a triple date, not together, Aug. 31, 1947, but after three weeks, they paired off with each other.

On Sept. 21, 1947, in the small chapel on the naval base on Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay, their journey began. Four children and a lifetime later, they celebrated their 70th anniversary. They are blessed with five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandchild.

Larry worked for the phone company, Pacific Northwest Bell, then US West, until he retired in 1981. Pat worked at US Bank in Medford.
