David Paul Longmire, 18, of Medford, graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on Nov. 5, 2008. Pvt. Longmire completed 13 weeks of basic training at MCRD San Diego and Camp Pendleton as one of 86 recruits in 2nd Battalion, Echo Company Training Platoon 2103. While in basic training, Pvt. Longmire qualified as an expert in firing an M16A2 rifle. Following 10 days' home leave, he will report to Camp Pendleton for two months at the infantry training battalion.

Longmire is a 2008 graduate of North Medford High School and is the son of Charles and Teresa Longmire.


Marine Corps Cpl. Andrew S. Taylor, son of Gail A. and Scott E. Taylor of Yreka, Calif., was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal while deployed to Iraq with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, Marine Wing Support Group 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.

While deployed in as arrival and departure aircraft control group team leader of Combat Outpost Rawah Detachment, Taylor was instrumental in developing concepts and procedures to expedite the output of equipment and personnel at multiple combat outposts.

He also executed the mishap-free processing of more than 185 assault-support missions that transported more than 2,000 personnel and 200,000 pounds of cargo during a six-month period in support of Multi National Force West combat operations in Al Anbar province. He also was selected to provide squadron-liaison functions with other units.

Taylor is a 2005 graduate of Yreka High School of Yreka, Calif., and joined the Marine Corps in August 2005.
